Major Gift Officer

Overview

Working under the direction of the Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gift Officer is responsible for development of the Leadership Circle, recognizing and engaging donors of $1,200+ to Cascade Public Media’s general operating fund, and developing and implementing strategy for acquiring gifts of $1,200+. This includes strategy development, coordination with senior staff and the President’s Office, and strategic collaboration with volunteers including the Cascade Public Media Board. This position assists with prospect research and management strategy. This position also works with the Director of Major Gifts on developing, planning and executing other major donor cultivation and stewardship opportunities and events.

Key Job Responsibilities

I. Lead

  1. Manage relationships with a portfolio of 150-200 current & prospective major donors ($1,200+) in Washington
  2. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals while working collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, the Senior Management Team and other members of the Philanthropy team
  3. Write appeals and donor reports, and assist with other donor communications as requested
  4. Assist with developing a Major Giving Strategic Plan based on Cascade Public Media’s goals and objectives 
  5. Cultivate relationships primarily through personal visits along with regular phone and letter contact
  6. Serve as a well-informed representative and advocate for Cascade Public Media

II. Collaborate 

  1. Attend development planning meetings and development department meetings
  2. Coordinate prospect plans with President & CEO, VP of Philanthropy, Director of Major Gifts, Director of Corporate Sponsorship, Planned Giving Officer and Major Gifts staff
  3. Work with events team, production team and journalists to plan donor stewardship and cultivation events
  4. Maintain effective communications with volunteers, Production and Accounting
  5. Develop and maintain relationships with business and community leaders
  6. Develop and maintain relationships with other development officers in the community
  7. Work with the Board as appropriate
  8. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  2. Five years experience fundraising for non-profit organizations required
  3. Must excel in working with high net-worth individuals, families and businesses and have the ability to compel investment in Cascade Public Media’s mission
  4. Demonstrated successful experience and effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, solicitation and Board interaction required
  5. Thorough working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) required
  6. Strong research skills, fundraising database and membership management experience required
  7. Extensive local and regional travel throughout Washington required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  1. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Washington State driver's license
  2. Ability to work some evenings, weekends and holidays
  3. Ability to view data on a computer screen for long periods of time
  4. Ability to regularly type on a keyboard
  5. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
