The Future of Seattle: Building the City We Want

Perennially listed as one of the best places to live, Seattle now faces many of the hurdles that the world’s fastest-growing cities do - heightened by the impacts of the COVID-19 shutdowns. Among them, hybrid work models and half-empty offices; economic instability that threatens vulnerable communities and businesses; diverse neighborhoods upended by gentrification and displacement; and rising costs of living that make it unaffordable for artists. We’ll sit down with three leaders taking on these challenges and hear how they hope to rebuild Seattle to be the city we want it to be.

Local authors team up with KCTS 9, Third Place Books and PBS books to lead monthly book discussions on themes related to KCTS 9 programming.

The October selection is So Lucky by Nicola Griffith to complement programming related to the experiences and rights of the disability community airing during the month.

Seattle's Next Mayor: One-on-One with the Candidates

Two candidates are vying to lead Seattle as it faces enormous challenges - from an ongoing pandemic to a crisis of homelessness and housing to calls to reimagine policing and public safety. How they propose to take on these issues could have a profound impact on the future of the city for many years to come. Hear how each candidate sees their solutions in the context of a larger vision for the future of our city in dueling one-on-one interviews just weeks ahead of the mayoral election.
